Description
The Sacramento Business Barometer issued by the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce served as the city’s annual publication cataloging the rate of the city’s economic progress. Under the direction of W.G. Stone, manager of the transportation and industrial department of the Chamber of Commerce, the barometer captures financial and business trends in bank debits, postal receipts, building permits, motor vehicle sales, water services, electricity consumption, gas consumption, telephone connection, newspaper circulation, and one family residence construction. Operating out of 917 7th Street the Chamber of Commerce also records the development of the city in terms of demographic and industry. The periodical collection includes issues from 1938 through 1943 along with 1948, 1949, and 1951.
