Connie and Jay begin the interview discussing the context of the novel, the history of the Tunney family, and how Gene Tunney used a classical Greek style of boxing in the ring. They go on to discuss Gene’s career achievements and the reason for his retirement, and Gene’s befriending Bernard Shaw, before moving on to talk about Gene‘s wife Polly’s life and the writing of the book. Connie and Jay then consider the nature of the close relationship between Gene and Bernard, and Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book.
