Description
The St. Charles Hotel. The section on the far right was originally the Bella Union Hotel, described in Horace Bell's Reminiscences of a Ranger. The section on the far left was originally the Bachman House. The middle section, bearing the sign "Bank Los Angeles," was the first home of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, the predecessor of Security Pacific National Bank. The block was demolished in the Spring of 1957. The hotel was briefly named the Clarendon before it was the St. Charles.
