On August 28, 1963 thousands of American gathered in Washington D.C. for a political rally known as the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom." The rally was organized by civil and religious groups to reveal the political and social injustices African Americans faced across the country. The rally became a key moment in the growing struggle for civil rights in the United States. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I have a Dream' speech was one of the most memorable moments of the event. On the same day, nearly 3,000 demonstrators gathered in downtown Los Angeles. Photograph caption dated August 29, 1963 reads, "Actor Don Murray in rights march.
