Description
Antoine was reared in a broken home and finally went to live with his grandfather so he could finish his education. He was introduced to the standard works of the Church before his baptism and was therefore ready to become a member after he had read them. He was attracted to the story of Joseph Smith and benefitted greatly by following the Word of Wisdom. He came to the church from Catholicism. His wife is still Catholic. He is getting ready to defend a dissertation in meteorology and wishes he could work for BYU Pathway Worldwide. He says he went looking for religion because he understood he would not live forever. He appreciates the story of Nephi’s obedience. He thinks home visits are important and that recidivism could be improved by a stronger commitment to scripture reading and prayer. He has heard about the former LDS exclusion of blacks from the priesthood, but has not investigated it. He thinks such racism has no place in the Church of Jesus Christ. He says there are cultural differences between the LDS Church and Malagasy culture, but that some Malagasy traditions are still very important to members of the Church.
