The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on October 26, 1970 states "Motorists passing through the agricultural inspection station en route toward Sacramento from South Lake Tahoe on US 50 were greeted by clear sky and a glistering white cover of snow on Flagpole Peak and the Sierra Range rising from the Tahoe Basin."
