Thomas Clark Bundy (1881-1945) was a tennis player who won three consecutive men's doubles titles at the U.S. National Championships alongside Maurice McLoughlin. He married U.S. National Championship and Wimbledon champion May Sutton in 1912, though they separated in 1923, and eventually divorced in 1940. A Santa Monica realty man and civic leader, Bundy is also associated with the growth and development of Los Angeles and surrounding communities. He was the developer and subdivider of the famed Miracle Mile on Wilshire Boulevard and sold a corner of La Brea and Wilshire for $400,000, or $380,000 more than he paid for. Additionally, he was a pioneer of Brentwood real estate; Bundy Drive is named after him. Photograph caption dated March 2, 1934 reads, "Southern California, which has raised champions in tennis for more than 30 years, pays homage to this great quartet of stars and other southland tennis pioneers when the finals of the annual Los Angeles Tennis Club championship tournament is staged on Sunday."
