In 1967, South African and British entrepreneurs created an animal park in Florida where visitors could experience a safari-type adventure here in the United States. Eventually other parks, located in Irvine, Grand Prairie (Texas), Stockbridge (Georgia), and Ohio came into existence. The 500-acre Irvine park, shown here, existed from 1970 until 1984. After the park was closed, the site became Irvine Meadows, and more recently Verizon Amphitheater, a popular venue for musical performances.
