Photograph caption dated November 13, 1954 reads, "Mrs. Dorothy Simmons, left, and Mrs. Helen De Magio of Sylmar lug heavy record books to car that will carry them to far reaches of Valley to ask farmers and producers to list their stock and fruit trees for census. An act of congress in 1840 provides for census every four years throughout the United States."
