Photograph caption dated August 13, 1979 reads, "Two-year-old Shingo Kusama, wearing traditional coat, got into the spirit of the occasion as the 39th annual Nisei Week Japanese festival kicked off with a parade down First Street. Drill teams, folk dance troupes, marching bands and others put on a show that lasted nearly three hours."
