Description
Photograph of Fifth Street looking west from Towne Avenue, May 1891. At least seven large American flags hang from wires strung across the street. A horse-drawn carriage is parked at left. A few pedestrians walk along the sidewalks. Streetcar rails run up the middle of the wet street. Legible signs on some of the buildings read: "San Julian, furnished rooms", "Parker H"..., "A.M. Swanfeldt, 220 S. Main Street, tents and awnings"..., "Washington".... Advertising billboards are at right.
