Description
2018-1989. Waist-length portrait. Also have negative: GL#3059 (6 1/2 x 4 1/4 in.) Christian William Theodor Benedix was born in Germany in 1839 to Frederick J. W. and Fredericka Ribke. Family emigrated to United States in 1852, settling Iowa. Served in Civil War, Company G, 1st Iowan Infantry and at Benton Barracks, St. Louis. In 1864 moved to Idaho, gold mining in Boise basin; 1866 went to Oregon, did some gold prospecting. Came to California in 1866, settling in Rio Vista, Solano County; moved to Sacramento County in 1868, owned a farm southeast of Franklin. Served as member of Board of Trustees of Point Pleasan school district, and, Elk Grove Union High School. Member of Grand Army of the Republic, Warren Post no. 54. From J.E.D. Baldwin Collection.
