Description
A collar decoration called "dab tsho" in the White HMong dialect and "lub laug" in the Green HMong dialect. These collars are attached to the back of a jacket behind the neck. The collar shown is called "lub laug," the Green HMong style that is defined by pinwheel motifs and black and white border lines which have triangular "teeth" or "mountain" shaped motifs embedded into a line. These collars are worn face down so that the design is hidden; the visible side of the collar would showcase the backside stitches used to appliqué the border. Typed label affixed to mat board beneath the photograph reads, "Collar decoration, Blue HMong. This is worn face-down on the back of the shirt. / -Pang Vang Khang, Sacramento. / (Paaj Vaaj Khaab)." Handwritten inscription to the right of label reads, "1984 / Lewis." Original reference to the historical use of "Blue HMong" has been updated to reflect the more accurate Green HMong sub-group. Date derived from inscription on mat board recto. Notes on verso read: ""LFC [handwritten orange ink, upper right verso]; Detail Lub Laug Mong Njua (Green HMong) collar [handwritten red ink, upper right verso]; HMong: White HMong collar, photo, Lewis Judy *HMO.3517.00* Summer 2006 [printed label, upper right verso]; #3 [handwritten pencil, lower right verso]"" Original title from SEACRC: HMong: White HMong collar, photo
