Description
The recumbent Buddha statue is in the second image house in a cave. It is 39 feet long. The painted Buddha statue is in parinibbāna posture (with eyes closed), with the right side of the head resting on a pillow. The statue's very finely worked drapery in yellow is covered on the left shoulder by a narrow red garment, a samghāti. The robe apparently was hand woven in cotton thread and then pasted on to the statue, plastered over and painted. It is possible to pay homage to the statue by walking around it, which is possible only in some cases.
