Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Cecil, a baseball player from Los Angeles, had a try-out with the Chicago Cubs baseball team in 1925 but was told he was too dark to be on the team, and then played in Bloomington, Indiana for one year.
