Over his 60-year career in radio and voice acting, Mel Blanc became known for his work in animation as the voices of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and many other characters from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons.; The original Hathaway Home for Children orphanage, located in Highland Park was established in 1919 to care for emotionally disturbed and abused children. Photograph caption dated December 21, 1961 reads, "Despite being confined to wheelchair by accident which nearly took his life, Mel has always during convalescence been willing to appear before youthful fans. Here the voice of 'Bugs Bunny' is presented with a gold-plated carrot by Warner actress Shirley Knight at party celebrating the cartoon rabbit's 25th birthday as boys and girls from the Hathaway Home for Children look on."
