Photograph of pilot William Atwater at the controls of his airplane at the Dominguez Hills Air Meet, 1912. Atwater is seated at center and is holding a steering wheel in front of him while looking straight ahead. He is wearing a light shirt, dark pants, dark gloves, and a dark cap. The canvas wings of his aircraft are visible at top and bottom, and the plane's engine is mounted behind Atwater's head. The number thirteen is painted on the air filter on the engine.
