Description
1989-1200. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 7. A corner view of a large three story building standing between two two-story buildings; on top of the three story building is Orion Hotel; street level has storefronts; in front of the one on the left side is a perpendicular sign "Grill;" the upper two stories are articulated by seven tall windows; fire-escape balconies are located in the middle of each floor with a stairway connecting the two; corner building to the left has three arched windows on one side and six arched windows on the other side of the corner; cars are parked in front of both buildings and a pair of people are crossing the street. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Cor. bldg., "Bank Exchange Saloon" still in business since 1856... "Old Union Hotel," erected in 1856, still in business, same location, before 1857, known as the Verandah Hotel, two stories, third added on in 1857..."
