Description
Sixty-six 5 by 7 glassplate negatives of various Sacramento scenes (industrial activities, baseball, horse racing) taken by an unknown commercial photographer, post 1900. "Fireboat Dennis T. Sullivan." The San Francisco Fire Department fireboat demonstrates its capabilities along the Sacramento River Embarcadero on February 15, 1911, with Governor Hiram Johnson and other dignitaries on board. The fireboat was named for a San Francisco Fire Department chief who lost his life during the 1906 earthquake. The boat travelled up the Sacramento River to persuade the State Legislature of the need for such firefighting equipment.
