Description: Image of the smiling face of American actor Carrie Swain bursting through torn paper; with fragment of flowers visible at top; the poster presumably advertises Swain in "Cad, the Tomboy" by Leonard Grover.
Margins trimmed on local copy; probable date based on printer history and newspaper advertisement with same slogan as poster: "Ah! There! Carrie Swain! in Cad! The Tomboy!" (Daily Alta California, 9 July 1886, page 1); Carrie Swain performed in "Cad, the Tomboy" from 1882 until around 1886, and the Central Lithographing & Engraving Company operated in Chicago from 1884 until around 1886. "Central / Lith & Eng. Co. / Chicago"--text, bottom right.
