Children laughed as they watched the wooden crates gradually take shape: A motor, a mound of plaster, some pieces of wood, a streak of paint. And behold: A float depicting one of 36 scenes in "The Life and Ministry of Christ." "It's a labor of love with me," said Bill Allison, who was working on "The Flight Into Egypt," the float entry of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church of Van Nuys."
