Description
2018-0609. Three-quarter length portrait. Born in 1849 in Indiana to Elias W. and Talitha Shortridge. Came to California, settling first in San Jose in 1875; moved to San Francisco in 1880. In 1878, became first woman admitted to practice law in California. Served as clerk of the state assembly’s judiciary committee in 1879–80. Was active in suffragette movement.
