Description
A cabinet photograph of the decorated fire engine of Los Angeles Fire Department Engine Company No. 1, Lincoln Heights, circa 1890s. A view of the horse drawn fire engine decorated with greens and flowers, possibly for a parade. Women dressed in toga like robes sit on the rear of the carriage driven by two uniformed firefighters. Several uniformed men stand nearby. Behind the carriage is a view of the fire station at 1901 Pasadena Avenue at Avenue 19 in what was then called East Los Angeles. The photograph includes an ink inscription on the reverse, "Engine company no. 1/1901 Pasadena Avenue/Established 1886/Perhaps first Rose Parade 1890". The photograph is in good condition but the mount is poor with several areas of loss, right edge, left bottom corner and some delamination at the bottom edge.
