Description
Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph included in the Exhibit: From Pop to the Pit, The LAPL Photo Collection Celebrates the L.A. Music Scene, 1978-1989.
Born Eric Wright, and also known as The Godfather of "Gangsta Rap," Eazy-E performed both as a solo artist and with L.A. rappers Ice Cube and Dr. Dre in N.W.A. The highly controversial album "Straight Outta Compton," released on Eazy-E's label Ruthless Records, reached a remarkable double platinum status despite a lack of radio airplay.
Photograph dated February 12, 1989 reads, "This dude is Eazy-E, the leading Compton rapper, who says without rap music, he'd be dead or in jail. His current hit: 'We Want Eazy.'"
