Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated March 16, 1964 reads, "Heavy black smoke pours over the Valley early today as strong gusty winds whip up a brush fire in the Whiting Woods area of Montrose, near Lockerbie Lane. The blaze flared up when winds in some areas of the Valley reached gale proportions. This picture was taken from Magnolia Boulevard, looking east towards the Verdugo Mountains, as the heavy smoke blocked the early morning sun."
