Photograph of the interior of the shoe shop at Mission Santa Barbara, 1898-1900. Franciscan priest sitting on low stool is making a shoe. He is wearing the Franciscan habit. A mechanical tool for assisting in the shoe-making process is in the right foreground. A desk stocked with thread and other shoe-making supplies is adjacent to a window. A rack holds many pairs of shoes behind the monk. The floor is bare wood. The ceiling is bare rafters.
