Description
Image of a tall circular monument to the 120th New York Infantry. There is a bronze tablet above the base which reads: The One Hundred And Twentieth / New York Infantry / held this part of the line / on the second day of July 1863. / Present for duty, / 30 officers, 397 men, total 427. / Casualties, / from the War Department, / killed in battle, / 8 officers, 25 men. / Wounded, / 10 officers, 144 men. / Missing 17, Total 204. There are farm building in the distance behind the monument. The photograph has been affixed to a card with the photographer's signature and "Gettysburg, Pa." printed in gold lettering at the bottom.
One of the numerous monuments erected on the Gettysburg battlefield to honor the soldiers who fought and died in this decisive battle.

Provenance
Lindsey M. Gould, a Civil War veteran, acquired the photographs in the 1880s as a keepsake of his war experience. At Mr. Gould’s death around 1919, the entire collection went to his close friend Herbert W. Singleton. The collection remained in the Singleton family until May 2001 when the Huntington Library acquired it through a gift and purchase arrangement.
