Description
The trough, built around 1914, was originally located along the Los Angeles River in the Platt Ranch area and was moved to Olvera Street in 1917 at the request of Christine Sterling. The trough was called La Canoa, which became anglicized to Canoga. Mrs. Mary Orcutt was among those who requested that the trough be returned to Canoga Park.
Photograph caption dated March 1, 1962 reads, "Canoga Park leaders say this historic watering trough is in wrong place. Thomas Shepard, left, and Bede Gallup, Canoga Park, view the disputed trough."
