Description
Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news. The accompanying script, read by the newscaster, provides details of the stories and completes the broadcast. Segment 1 (silent): Four men in suits, standing in front of a painting inside a building, holding a plaque. From script, "Plaque Presented to Court. Prospective jurors who enter the new Superior Court Building for jury duty may be vaguely familiar with the canons of the American Bar Association. There are some other canons with which they may not be quite as familiar with: the canons of American citizenship. These canons were presented to the newly elected presiding Judge Robert Peckham this morning by David Adams of the County Bar Association. The plaque will hang in the jury assembly room. County Clerk Paul Teilh and Court Administrator Paul Steiling were on hand during the presentation. The ten canons proclaim that every American citizen should recognize the duty to 'uphold the laws of the United States,' 'defend our country from invasion,' 'encourage respect for law and order,' 'support those charged with law enforcement,' 'harbor no prejudice,' and concludes that 'responsibilities are as important as rights in the preservation of freedom and justice.'" Segment 2 (silent): interior shots of a car show at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, focusing on racing cars. From script, "The County Autorama and Boat Show opens Thursday evening at the Fairgrounds...displays are already being moved into the Exposition Building. For the auto show, the emphasis is on souped-up race cars with broad wheels and shiny finishes. Only a few of the numerous cars to be on display had been rolled into position. One of the sleekest of the vehicles was a customized car with an imitation tiger skin interior. For the autos, the emphasis is on speed and style. The Autorama will be combined with a boat show, with a total of three buildings full of exhibits for the eighth annual production." Segment 3 (silent): A woman being escorted by several men in suits out of a building at night. From script, "Johnson Arraignment. A Cupertino woman who is accused of murdering her husband of less than a week was arraigned in Municipal Court this afternoon. Lorna Marie Johnson, shown as she was being led from the murder scene last Friday evening, was arraigned before Judge Louis Doll. The woman did not enter a plea, and a preliminary hearing was slated for January 14th at 2 pm. She is accused of the pistol slaying of 33-year old Billy Brooks. She told sheriff's deputies she shot her new groom as the climax of a violent quarrel. The woman, who was under the impression the victim's name was Johnson, not Brooks, obtained the gun earlier in the day 'for protection.' She is being held in the woman's facility of County Jail without bail, charged with murder." 1/11/66 A-D 347
