Description
This daylight photograph of Woodall and Lehman Flowers and Gifts at 1510 L Street was taken on November 17, 1939. The pictured store was opened in 1939 by Herbert “Bert” Woodall and the first generation German-American Carl Lehman. Woodall came to the United States from England in 1904, when he was 15, settling in Boston, Massachusetts. Four years later, he moved to moved to Sacramento. Woodall learned the profession as a florist at the Bell Conservatory at Tenth and Y Streets. After nearly 50 years in business, Woodall retired in 1957 and Lehman in 1955.
