"Eingebor. Missionar (Joh. Zwelibanzi)." ("Nati[ve] missionary (Joh[annes] Zwelibanzi.)"). The picture shows a group of six people of African origin, one man, three women, a girl and either a girl or a boy. The men and one woman sit on chairs, the others stand. Bushes in the background. Imprinted on the image: "Eingeborener Missionar. Süd-Afrika. West. N. 417." ("Native missionary. South Africa. West. N. 417."). Two of the three photographies faded. -- The photo was taken in the Western part of South Africa. -- Johannes Zwelibanzi (born 1832 in South Africa, died 1901 in Clarkson) was one of the first students of the Training School in Genadendal in Hallbeck's time. He was first an acolyte and was later promoted assistant minister. Zwelibanzi served the Fingos outside the settlement, giving lessons to the children in a hut at Synklip south of Clarkson. In 1866 he moved with his school to Wittekleibosch and in Februar 1883 was ordained as one of the first African ministers. He served in Wittekleibosch as minister and school principal from 1883 until 1892. He then settled on the plot Bontrug and buildt a church and a teacher's dwelling. The new station received the name Etembeni ("The place of hope"). Zwelibanzi retired 1896.
