Born in 1901, in Los Angeles. Worked as newspaper correspondent for United Press Association, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Evening Herald. Became lawyer, serving as Municipal Judge in Los Angeles (1931-32), Superior Court Judge (1932-38), California Senator (1939-1943) and California Attorney General (1943-1947). Died in 1976.
