Agnews Asylum under construction. Agnews, a state institution for the mentally ill, was completed in 1888 at a cost of $750,000. It had a frontage of 750 feet, and housed over 900 patients.

image/jpeg2000 Master images scanned at 300 dpi and scaled to 6000 pixels on the longest side. Bit depth: grayscale at 8-bit; color at 24-bit. Images compressed to 800 pixels across the long dimension and to JPEG format. Scanning outsourced to Luna Imaging Inc. as part of an LSTA Grant funded by the California State Library in 2003-2004. Scanning hardware is unknown.
