Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Wayside Honor Rancho was renamed The Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center in 1983. Photograph caption dated September 14, 1959 reads "Prisoners learn trades. Work on rancho ranges from making concrete blocks, left (pictured), for construction of new barracks for minimum security prisoners, to shoe repair, right, in maximum security section. Prisoners repair shoes for other inmates of county's jails, fix thousands each year. Inmates also make signal flags for highway department." The prison is at 29310 The Old Road in Castaic.
