Title supplied by cataloger. United California Bank Tower, located between S. Hope, W. 6th, and Wilshire Blvd, was built in 1973 by The Luckman Partnership, Inc. Measuring in at 858 feet in height and consisting of 62 floors, this was the tallest building in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River from 1974 to 1982, until the completion of US Bank Tower in 1989. Presently, this bank is now known as AON Center. The Library Tower, located at 633 W. 5th Street and S. Hope, was designed by I.M. Pei & Partners. The structure measures 1,018 in height and consists of 73 floors. When completed, it became the tallest building on the Pacific Coast, and the tallest building in the United States west of the Mississippi River. The building, boasting of the highest helipad in the world, was designed to withstand an earthquake of 8.3 on the Richter Scale. The Library Tower (named after the Los Angeles Central Library, which is located across the street), was sold and became US Bank Tower on March 2003. Color view, looking north on Hope Street.
