Photograph caption dated September 8, 1954 reads, "Settling bed near Hanson Dam is best available drag strip site in San Fernando Valley. Distant future plans at moment include picnic grounds, golf courses and other park developments. It falls under jurisdiction of City Recreation and Park Department, which is currently conducting city-wide search for site. The beautiful and secluded area has been long advocated for strip, being readily accessible to Valley's hot rodders, reportedly running into the thousands."
