Nepal is placed in the Himalaya mountains without access to the sea. It consists of 3 well defined geographic Regions, the fertile and subtropical lowland Terai, the central highland with pastures and forests, and the Himalaya Mountains, with some of the Earth's highest peaks. The result is a major climatic variation from the subtropical areas with lots of rain to the cold areas, high in the mountains.
