Photograph caption dated September 14, 1961 reads, "Harry Bohne, commander of American Legion Post 826 in Woodland Hills, awards trophy to Mrs. Jack Daley, president of the Woodland Hills German Shepherd Club, in recognition of her club's entry in the 'most unusual' category in a Fourth of July parade sponsored by the post. The entry featured 15 German Shepherds costumed in the various roles the dogs are called upon to play in society. Dogs were featured in a variety of roles including police dog, war dog, seeing-eye-dog and 'movie star' dog. The parade was sponsored in an effort to recapture the flavor and spirit of 'old-fashioned' Fourth of July parades. It was one of a series of Americanism projects during the Independence Day season in the West Valley."
