On November 29, 1983, Congressman Jack Kemp describes the ability of the United States to retain dominancy among other countries based upon the success the nation had in democracy and free enterprise, allowing it to be viewed as a template for the rest of the world. He describes the importance of a global economy and that the United States must work with other countries to support the world's people. At the dinner, an award was given to Julian Virtue, founder of Virco Manufacturing, by Pepperdine University's Center for American Private Enterprise.
