Caption printed on photo: "Golden Gate 1873." Text written under photo: "Fort Point & Golden Gate 1873." View looks west from Russian Hill and shows the sandy, sparsely settled area near Fort Mason and Washerwoman's Lagoon. The Presidio, Fort Winfield Scott, and the adjoining Golden Gate are beyond. In the foreground a few houses climb the western slope of Russian Hill.
