Description
This short film includes scenes from the events at the Pit 91 opening on Asphalt Friday (June 13, 1969) and subsequent activities at the Tar Pits. Speaker addresses audience, and officials “dig” symbolically as part of the opening ceremonies. Workers dig dirt, pump, and drill, while audience watches proceedings. (This footage is excerpted from a longer film about Asphalt Friday, entitled “Pit 91 Opening Ceremony 6-13-1969.”) The film continues with additional Tar Pits activities over time: workers drilling with heavy machinery, picking out fossils from the tar, and cleaning them.
