Description
"Johan og Hans Smith" ("Johan and Hans Smith"). The building in the background is the "Sanatorium" in Antsirabe where visitors stayed during the time they were. They could take warm baths there. For a long period of time missionaries used horses for transport. Hans Wilhelm Dop Smith was a missionary in Madagascar from 1896-1916. He married Julie Arnestad 1873-1920, in Oslo, Norway on June 5, 1896. On March 8, 1928 he married Kristianna Bakketun 1885-1932, maiden name Schanche. On July 2, 1937 he then married Randi Bay, born in 1884. Johan Joergen Broch Smith was a missionary in Madagascar from 1887-1919. He married Kunda Helliesen Bertelsen 1863-1892 in Tananarive 1889. He then married Nikoline (Lina) Eckhoff 1860-1938, in Ambohimasina on December 11, 1894. She was a missionary in Madagascar from 1886-1919.
