Description
Ernestine Bradley discusses her book, “The Way Home.” She begins by explaining that the book is the story of her life growing up in post World War II Germany and how she later went on to become a professor of comparative literature and the wife of former senator and presidential hopeful Bill Bradley. She explains the relationships between her mother, biological father, and stepfather and how they played out during the war and directly following the fall of the Nazi regime. Bradley explores her relationship with her mother and the effect her secrets had on her. She goes on discuss the effect her past had on her husband’s political career. Later in the interview she shares memories of confronting her mother about what happened to the Jews during the Holocaust and her own feelings as a German from post World War II Germany.
