Description
Originally named Boulder Dam, and renamed Hoover Dam in 1946. Looking at the face of the dam under construction we can see a 12 foot wide "slot" running from top to bottom. It ran thru the entire structure and included 900 miles of pipe. These pipes carried ice water to cool the concrete as it set. The slot would later be filled in, and as the temperature returned to normal, the dam would expand, wedging itself into the sides of the canyon.
