Description
This 1952 photograph shows Career Girl at 1027 K St. and the Crest Fashions at 1025 K St. This nighttime photograph captures the glare of neon caught by smartly dressed mannequins. A sign promotes a half-price sale on summer wear at Career Girl, while yet another encourages sales ladies with experience to apply. Career Girl sought to “cater specifically to the fashion needs of young homemakers and career business women.” The store expanded to a location in the Southgate Shopping Center in 1960. The K Street location closed at roughly the same time; Crest Fashions closed its doors by 1970.
