Description
Charles Handy thought for the day on how important it is to be truthful to one's self, in order to be truthful to other people. Handy begins the thought discussing how a bit of image enhancement was used on a television documentary, where the sound of chirping birds was added. He goes on to note how image enhancement, while justifiable and acceptable in some circumstances, becomes an absolute lie if carried too far, and a person ends up living a lie by deceiving themselves. Handy proceeds to observe that most people do not expect others to be perfect, and that people are often liked and respected more if their imperfections are known, before closing the thought reflecting on aging and hypothesizing that the older one gets, the easier it is for one to accept themselves as they are and stop pretending.
