Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on May 21, 1968 states: "Division of Highways maintenance men from Echo Summit blasted a "conservatively" estimated 400 tons of rock from the cliffs above U. S. 50 about half a mile from the summit at noon yesterday and spend the rest of the day cleaning up the debris. Top (subject) photo shows the moment of demolition of one of the blasts. In the bottom photo, workmen chose their next 'victim.' "
