Ruth Bailey was the Third and Seventh Female Mayor of Huntington Beach. Like countless others, she migrated to the region with her family. arriving here when she was only 12 years old. As a young woman, she was inspired to join the League of Women Voters where she became particularly interested in the encouraging young people to participate in government. Campaigning with the one word slogan "truth", she was elected to the City Council twice - in 1979 and again in 1983. A hallmark of her efforts was the creation of Youth Board and a Youth Shelter, both of which remain in place. Following her eight years of service on the City Council and her two terms as Mayor, she remained active until her death in 2006. This film was produced and created for the then-active Huntington Beach local TV station. CAT: Former Mayors Ref:3005 Hoat: Dr. Thomas Cooper Guest Mayor Ruth Bailey 1979-1980 1983-1984
