Description
This September 1, 1944, photograph shows the storefront of the W.T. Grant Company’s 4,800 square foot store at Eighth and K Streets. The store opened in 1937 as an annex to the primary location at 722 K which had been hit by arson in December 1936. The New York-based store’s pricing angle was simple: mark everything between one cent and one dollar within its more than 30 merchandise classifications. By the early 70s, Sacramento had six stores. The tower that looms above the store roof is that of the Post Office building on Seventh and K Streets.
