Description
Samuel Lewis, one of Mae Young's proteges is 26 years old, and a school counselor at the Community Skill Center in the day. The mild-mannered Mr. Lewis goes about the business of counseling during the week "cool, calm, and collected" and at nights and weekends, he grunts and groans in the ring at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. Under the name "Sam Lumumba", Lewis wrestled throughout Mexico and won one of the championships of Mexico. At 6' 2" and weighing 225 pounds, Lewis is very conscious of his weight and the food that he eats. Says Lewis, "When I put on my uniform, I mean business. It's not for kicks or fun, it's for money." Samuel Lewis' uniform consists of tights, hat, jewelry, and make-up. According to Lewis, "It's like a woman getting dressed up in her finest gown going to a ball." Photo dated: April 21, 1967.
